Speaking about a series of murders that shook the capital Tuesday, including the killings of two elderly women during house break-ins in west Delhi’s Rohini South, Neeraj Kumar said that six murders occurred that day while some reports claimed nine.

The commissioner chief said that police can prevent murders during robbery and snatching, but it is too difficult to curb such killings that take place due to personal reasons – like the son killing his father Tuesday in south Delhi’s Nizamuddin area over his alleged abusive behaviour.

At least 543 murders occurred in the city 2011 and most of them took place during snatching and robbery, said Neeraj Kumar.

“Taking into account the prior incidents of snatching, we have prepared a chart of vulnerable spots and timings that were chosen by the snatchers to commit crime,” he said.

Every police station and police control room (PCR) van has been provided such a chart to curb snatching incidents, he added.
