New Delhi : Thousands of Delhi Metro travellers faced a harrowing time Tuesday afternoon after the entire system stalled when the power supply tripped for the second time in two days. Metro services on all six lines were halted after another collapse of the Northern Grid.

“As the Northern Grid failed, all train services have been stopped and entry to all stations has been stopped. The trains which are plying were immediately brought to the nearest stations for evacuating the passengers,” a Delhi Metro official said.

The immediate concern, after the grid collapsed at 1.05 p.m., was to evacuate passengers in trains running in the underground sections, the official said.

“Nine trains were running underground. They were immediately brought to the nearest station and the passengers were evacuated. No passengers are stranded underground,” a Delhi Metro official said.

The Delhi Metro operates over 2,700 trips a day, covering about 70,000 km and carrying around 1.8 million passengers on week days. Services were also affected on Monday after the Northern Grid collapsed.
