Bar foreign educational institutions: CPI-M

By IANS,

New Delhi : The CPI-M Friday asked the government not to allow foreign educational institutions into India.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist said Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal was trying to achieve this bypassing parliament ahead of his visit to the US.

“The CPI-M warns the minister against any such move,” it said in a statement.

“On the contrary, those foreign owned institutions operating in India in violation of the law must be proceeded against and steps taken to prevent any further violations,” it said.

The CPI-M said Sibal, on the eve of his visit to the US to attend the Indo-US CEO Forum meeting, “is keen to find a way to satisfy the demand of US educational institutions for easy entry into India”.

For this, the minister seeks to introduce liberalized rules which do not require the assent of parliament, it said.

“Since the relevant bill for entry of foreign educational institutions is pending before parliament, this would be a clear case of bypassing parliament and is contempt of parliament.”
