Raju was an ideal officer, says Kaarthikeyan

By IANS,

New Delhi : Former NIA chief Radha Vinod Raju, who died Thursday, was an ideal police officer, former CBI chief D.R. Kaarthikeyan said.

“One feels sad that such a glorious life has been snatched away so soon and so suddenly,” Kaarthikeyan said in a statement here.

He described Raju as “a rare being, a sincere and affectionate friend, an ideal officer, a perfect gentleman, an embodiment of admirable qualities of head and heart”.

Kaarthikeyan, who headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that probed Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, recalled that Raju led the unit which tracked down the assassination squad and other conspirators.

“He travelled long distances day and night in pursuit of the wanted. He often (skipped) sleep and food. He inspired his team so much that his team was totally dedicated to him and the cause.

“Because of his good manners, empathy, humility, hard work and intelligence, he earned the respect and love of his colleagues, junior officers and the lawyers.”
