Mumbai : Two dead bodies were recovered from the sixth floor of the Mantralaya or the Maharashtra secretariat as the fire fighters were late Thursday still engaged in containing the fire that gutted four floors of the building.
“Two dead bodies – both males – have been found outside an office on the sixth floor,” a fire official said.
The charred bodies were found outside the office of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Sixteen people were injured in the major fire. All are stable barring one person who is critical.
The fire that started on the fourth floor, engulfed the fifth, sixth and seventh floors of the building that houses offices of state ministers and other officials.
As many as 21 fire tenders battled the blaze and rigorous efforts were made to douse the fire. Navy helicopters and anti-terrorist unit Force One were also rushed for the rescue operations.
The fire that started at around 2.15 a.m. has still not been doused completely.
