Gopalkrishna Gandhi to head Shimla’s IIAS

Shimla : Former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi is the new chairman of the governing body of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) in Shimla, an official statement said here Monday.

Gopalkrishna, the youngest grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has been appointed by the government of India for a period of three years.

IIAS is a premier advanced research institution in the field of humanities and social sciences, and is housed in the erstwhile Viceregal Lodge, built during the vice reign of Lord Dufferin before Independence.

D.L. Sheth, former member of the Backward Class Commission; Madhavan Palat, chief editor of Nehru Memorial Trust; Lalji Singh, Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University; David Symlieh, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University; and Peter Ronald De Souza, IIAS director, are among the new members of IIAS’ governing body.
