Hyderabad : Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu said Tuesday the people had once again rejected the Congress party and voted for stability.
Reacting to the poll results in Uttar Pradesh and four other states, he said Congress stood further isolated at the national level.
On the Samajwadi Party sweeping the UP elections, Naidu said the people had voted for stability. “The results have once again proved that only regional parties can provide stability,” he added.
Naidu telephoned SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav to congratulate him on his party’s massive victory.
He said though Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi worked hard in UP, the people rejected them and the Congress remained at the fourth position.
“The cycle has swept the elections in UP and the cycle will sweep 2014 elections in Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu said. The cycle is the poll symbol of both the SP and the TDP.
On the Congress’ defeat in four of the five states, the YSR Congress said arrogance had proved costly for Congress party. Party spokesperson Jupudi Prabhakar said the poll results was an indicator of the things in store for Congress in Andhra Pradesh. He predicted that YSR Congress party will come to power in the state elections in 2014.
State Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana, however, claimed that Congress party had emerged stronger in UP compared to the last elections. He said Rahul Gandhi boosted the morale of the party cadre in the state. He was confident that Congress would retain power in Andhra Pradesh in the 2014 elections.
