According to defence ministry sources, Antony during the hour-long meeting was updated on the latest security situation along the country’s borders, particularly with China and Pakistan.

Sources said the meeting came as militant incursion across the Line of Control, the de facto border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, is feared to go up when snow starts to melt and it becomes easier for them to cross over.

Sources said the possibility of increase in incursions was discussed in the meeting and the defence minister was also briefed about the counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting comes ahead of the parliament budget session beginning next week.

Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma, outgoing Army Chief General V.K. Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma and Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne also attended the meeting.
