Islamabad : Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said he will act in accordance with the constitution with regard to the corruption charge against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Gilani was replying to reporters in Lahore Sunday when being asked about the supreme court’s order to the prime minister to write to Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against the president, Geo TV reported.
Gilani said he will not take advice from anybody but will work in accordance with the constitution. He said any inquiry into the Swiss bank issue should have been referred to the parliament.
The apex court March 8 directed Gilani to implement its order on the National Reconciliation Ordinance, issued by then President Pervez Musharraf, granting amnesty to politicians and bureaucrats accused of corruption.
It also asked Gilani to submit in court in writing March 19 regarding the implementation of its order.
The country’s anti-corruption body has said millions of dollars have been transferred to Swiss banks from Pakistan.
