Agartala : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will attend Bangladesh’s independence and national day celebrations in Dhaka March 27, an official said Tuesday.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni has invited the chief minister to attend as a special guest, a senior official told IANS.
Bangladesh has been celebrating 40 years of its liberation since last year. It has invited many Indian dignitaries to attend its independence day commemoration March 27.
Sarkar had attended the events in March 2010 too.
Sarkar will also meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discuss various issues, including transit and construction of a bridge over river Feni, the official said.
A bridge is set to connect southern Tripura’s border town with Bangladesh’s Ramgarh city.
The official added: “India’s northeast needs transit route via Bangladesh for ferrying men, material and heavy machinery. The region has abundant natural resources like oil, gas and coal… These have to be exploited in the interest of the region and Bangladesh.”
