Hazrat Nizamuddin was a Sufi sheikh of the Chishti order. 708th Urs of Hazrat Nizamuddin is being celebrated in Delhi these days. Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari was the chief guest at the qawwali program organized as part of the urs celebration.
The program started at 8:30pm yesterday with the arrival of the Vice President. After he was honored by tying a turban on his head, qawwali performance began with local qawwali group of Niyazi Group signing Amir Khusro’s famous qawwali “Zi haal-e-miskin..” The total program length was 2 qawwali performances and lasted 40 minutes.
Under tight-security Ansari came and listened to two qawwalis and then he left. He didn’t address the audience or visit the dargah for fatiha.
