Ranchi : Railway services were affected in Jharkhand Thursday as the ruling BJP enforced a three-hour economic blockade to protest the “neglect of the state” in the railway budget for 2012-13.
The BJP workers halted railway services in different parts of the state and even squatted on the tracks. The BJP workers blocked railway services in Jamshedpur, Latehar, Giridih, Dhanbad and other districts.
The economic blockade began at 10 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m.
“Jharkhand has been neglected in the railway budget. The prime minister should consider the demand of Chief Minister Arjun Munda. The economic blockade was successful and it reflects the voice of the people of the state,” Dineshanand Goswami, Jharkhand BJP president, told reporters.
Munda had expressed disappointment over “neglect” of the state in the rail budget.
Munda had sought six new trains for the state and increasing the frequency of key trains connecting Ranchi to Pune and other parts of the country.
