Eunuchs can contest Delhi civic polls

New Delhi : Eunuchs in the capital to contest the upcoming civic polls but not from the wards reserved for women, the state election commission ruled Thursday.

Eunuchs who have mentioned their sex as “others” in the voters’ list will be allowed to fight from the general category wards, the Delhi Election Commission said in its order.

“Only those eunuchs who have mentioned their sex under the women’s category will be able to fight elections from the wards reserved for women,” Delhi Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta told IANS.

“Our decision is based on the the Election Commission of India’s order issued in 2009,” Mehta said.

Municipal polls will be held in Delhi April 15.
