Maharashtra Congressman demands museum to honour Sachin

Mumbai/Pune : After being bowled over by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th ton, Maharashtra’s Congress chief Sunday demanded the state government build an international cricket museum to honour the iconic batsman.

“An international cricket museum on the lines of Switzerland’s Olympic Museum should be made in Mumbai to honour Sachin Tendulkar,” said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thakre.

The Pune Municipal Corporation had last year set aside a 1.25 acre plot for such a project.

The museum – the cost and setting up of which would be responsibility of the state government – will detail Sachin’s rise from a cricket whizkid to an international legend.

According to the proposal, the state-of-art museum will showcase the life of Tendulkar through an audio-visual presentation. It will also display rare photographs of the cricketer from his childhood. Various belongings of Tendulkar and other international cricket players would also be kept in the museum.

“However, the plan is still pending now that there are changes in the standing committee and there is a new mayor,” an official from Pune Municipal Corporation said.
