Mumbai : The Maharashtra legislative assembly speaker Monday did not allow a discussion on the visit by a Pakistan judicial commission to Mumbai in connection with the investigations into the 26/11 terror attack case.
Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil said that since the matter is ‘sub-judice’ a discussion on it would not be permitted in the house.
He was responding to a demand by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena group leader in the assembly, Bala Nandgaonkar who protested the access granted to the commission to record the statements of four key witnesses in the Mumbai terror attack of Nov 26-29, 2008.
“Pakistan denied permission to the Indian authorities to probe eight persons who have been arrested in Pakistan in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks. However, we have accorded a red carpet welcome to the Pakistan judicial commission,” Nandgaonkar said, registering the party’s protest.
He pointed out that the commission members did not bother to meet the injured or the victims’ families during their visit.
Last Saturday, MNS had demonstrated outside the Marine Plaza Hotel in south Mumbai where the panel members were staying.
Nandgaonkar said the MNS wanted to submit a memorandum registering their protest, but were not allowed to and instead detained by the police.
