16 Italian judges held in anti-mafia operation

By IANS/AKI,

Naples : Sixteen judges have been arrested by police in Italy’s Naples city, and assets worth one billion euros (around $1.3 billion) seized in an anti-mafia operation.

The judges are suspected of favouring in court cases alleged members of the Fabbrocino crime clan of the Camorra — as the mafia in Naples is called.

Around 60 people have been sent to prison or given house arrest. Assets including stocks, real estate, and cars valued at one billion euros were impounded by the finance police.

In the operation, investigators targeted the Ragosta Group holding company, which they said was an arm of the mafia clan that was involved in hotels, real estate and steel with annual sales of 200 million euros.
