Helsinki : The Finnish embassy staff in Syrian capital Damascus has left the country due to the “weakened security situation”, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The embassy in Syria was also responsible for Finland’s affairs in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. All duties will be temporarily managed from Helsinki, Xinhua reported.
The foreign ministry urged all Finnish people to avoid travelling to Syria, and also asked Finnish citizens still in Syria to leave the country.
