Kasargod: The internal conflict of Indian Union Muslim League [IUML] Kasargod district unit came out in the open as League workers made attempts to manhandle state level leaders like ET Muhammed Basheer [MP], KPA Majeed [IUML state General Secretary], state secretaries MC Main Haji, TPM Sahir and district committee treasurer CT Ahammedali.

Soon after KPA Majeed announced the list of newly selected district committee leaders the workers turned violent and started raising slogans against the leaders. The leaders then managed to escape safely from the angry mob by moving to the nearby guest house.

Earlier there were some serious disputes regarding the Kasargod district General Secretary post. Cherkalam Abdullah was elected as the district president unanimously in the district league members meeting. A Abdurrehman and MC Kamarudhin contested for the General Secretary post and won 151 and 149 votes respectively.

Four votes declared invalid and a section raised arguments that the invalid votes were in favour of Kamarudhin. As the disputes got worse the returning officer C Mammutty MLA suspended the election results. IUML state President Panakkad Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal then called both the factions to his residence to solve the issue through talks, but his efforts too went in vain.

It was since then the district council joined again to discuss the issue whereby the state leaders announced MC Kamarudhin as General Secretary and CT Ahammedali as treasurer. This provoked the supporters of A Abdurrehman.

Earlier the council held under the leadership of district president Cherkalam Abdullah had announced the new panel excluding Kamarudhin and CT Ahammedali. But the state leaders on the order of state president Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal recognised the panel without these two members as incomplete and upheld their earlier decision by asking Kamarudhin and Ahammedali to continue with their posts.

The state committee have now suspended five league workers including IUML’s Municipality member for their aggressive acts of raising slogans against state leaders, attempts to block and manhandle them. The district leaders have talked to national president E Ahmed on this issue when he was visiting Kasargod.

In between there were attempts to pelt stones at CT Ahammedali’s car while he was on his way to the railway station to welcome Central minister E Ahmed. This attack is observed as a reaction to the suspension of the five league workers.
