Betul case: Madhya Pradesh removes SP, suspends DSP

Bhopal : Taking action in the murder of a tribal mother who was shot for registering an FIR against her daughter’s rape in Betul district last week, the Madhya Pradesh home ministry removed the Betul Superintendent of Police and suspended his deputy Monday, an official said.

A press release issued by the state government said Betul SP B.S. Chouhan has been made Assistant Inspector General in police headquarters, Bhopal while Lalit Shakaywar, a 2008 batch IPS officer has been given charge of Betul SP.

Chouhan’s deputy Satish Mishra has been suspended for dereliction of duty.

On Friday night, Imarti Bai Dhurve was shot dead, allegedly by Rajesh Kirar at her house in Hamlapur in Betul. Rajesh had been threatening her to drop her complaint of rape that he had allegedly committed Feb 10 on her minor daughter, a standard eight student.

The woman had informed the police about the threat. The cops had registered a separate case but did not take any action.
