JNU’s Tibetan students pay homage to ‘martyr’

New Delhi : Tibetan students in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here Wednesday sat on a candlelight vigil in the campus to pay homage to Jamphel Yeshi, the protester who had Monday attempted self-immolation and later died of his injuries.

Yeshi, who had suffered from 98 percent burn injuries in the incident, succumbed to his injuries, early Wednesday morning.

The 200 strong group of JNU’s ‘Tibet Forum’ also protested against Chinese oppression, following Chinese President Hu Jintao’s arrival in the capital for the 4th BRICS summit.

The protesters distributed pamphlets carrying the names of all 32 Tibetan protesters who have attempted self-immolation in past one year.
