BJP legislator’s son shot dead in UP

By IANS,

Lucknow : The son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district Tuesday after a spat with the guard of a nursing home over parking a car, police said.

The incident took place near the R.N. Pandey Nursing Home in Gonda, 120 km from Lucknow, police said, adding the guard, Suresh Kumar Pandey, is absconding.

A home department spokesman told IANS that the deceased has been identified as Gaurav Singh, son of Bawan Singh, BJP legislator from the Katra assembly constituency.

According to police, the killing was a result of an angry spat between Pandey and Gaurav, after the guard asked the legislator’s son not to park the car at a certain spot.

When Gaurav did not pay heed and the verbal duel turned into a fight, Pandey fired at Gaurav, injuring him critically. Gaurav was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility where doctors referred him to Lucknow but he died on the way to the capital due to profuse bleeding.

Police said there was tension in the area after the killing and adequate police force had been deployed to control any untoward incident.

Police officials told IANS that legal proceedings were on and that the cops were on the look out for the assailant who fled the scene soon after opening fire.
