CBI misleading courts on Essar: Counsel

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Essar Group Tuesday alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was misleading courts about their culpability in the second generation (2G) telecom airwaves case.

Essar’s senior counsel Harish Salve told CBI Special Judge O.P. Saini that the investigating agency had not gone into the root of the case while filing charges against the group’s promoters.

“The CBI has not gone into the root. Either go into the root or give us the fruit. CBI has left us nowhere. It has put us on the top of the tree,” Salve said.

Essar Group promoters invested money in Loop Telecom just to help their relative, with no mala fide intention whatsoever, said the counsel.

He again denied charges that Essar’s promoters were the real investors and beneficiaries of spectrum and licences awarded to Loop by using it as a front in 2008.

“But for the investigating agency, no one has complained in the case,” counsel said.

The hearing will continue Wednesday.
