Kolkata : In an apparent sign of strain, the West Bengal state Congress Tuesday shot off a letter to the state election commissioner complaining against the threats by Trinamool Congress against its nominees in the upcoming civic polls.
The Congress’ state general secretary Om Prakash Mishra, in his letter, complained about the constant threats and intimidation of theCongress workers and nominees by Trinamool Congress supporters in East Midnapore.
The Haldia and Pashkura municipalities of East Midnapore district are scheduled to go for polls this month.
“The Congress workers and nominees are being regularly threatened by miscreants of Trinamool Congress everyday. Yesterday a Congress leader was kidnapped and was later on released. In many areas Congress candidates would not be able to file their nominations due to fear psychosis and general lawlessness in the area,” Mishra said.
He also alleged that Trinamool would restore to strong arm tactics to force the candidates of Congress to withdraw their nominations.
Mishra said that Congress state unit demands that both general and police administration be directed to ensure security to the Congress nominees in these two municipalities.
