Mumbai : The Right to Information Act (RTI) must be used to strengthen the government, National Minorities Commission Chairman Wajahat Habibullah said here Wednesday.
He was addressing students at the 72nd convocation of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
“Some people use the RTI to threaten. If somebody’s work is not done, then he often threatens to file an RTI. The objective of filing a query under RTI must be to ensure transparency and accountability in the government,” Habibullah said.
“However, the ultimate result of RTI must be to strengthen the government,” he added.
Three hundred and thirty-two students received their respective degrees at the convocation.
