Mumbai: Excessive commercialization of media is affecting the truth and journalism, said Dr. Salim Khan, columnist and author. He was speaking on Importance of Speaking Truth in Journalism on Sunday here at Anjuman-e-Islam Bandra School in Mumbai.
There are three types of Journalists, one who adopted it as profession, other as a mission and the third type includes journalists who are professionals having a mission, said Dr. Salim. Elaborating further he said, “Professional journalists never take chances with the truth. Whereas Journalists with some kind of activism will stretch the facts till it does not affect their career but a journalist with a mission never compromises with the facts.”
Hasan Kamal, editor Rashtriya Sahara speaking
Hasan Kamal, senior journalist and editor of Rashtriya Sahara Urdu taking the issue ahead said the fourth type of journalists is emerging. They are those who assumed journalism as a fashion.
“Journalism is always related with the politics. Journalists of Urdu newspapers are also associated with the politics,” he said. Speaking about journalism and freedom, Kamal quoted Firaq Gorakhpuri and said: “Liberty is the name of superior restrictions that a human being applies consciously on one’s self based on his own observations.” But there are differences about the truth, he added.
Dr. Salim Khan felicitated
In his presidential speech, Maulana Riyaz Ahmed Khan said, “Presentation may differ but truths are crystal clear. Those who oppose it are wrong. The fights are on between the right and wrong and will continue. Differences are good because they lead to new horizons.”
