Medical college teacher, doctor detained for graft

New Delhi : A director professor of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and a retired doctor of the Lok Nayak Hospital here were Wednesday sent to judicial custody by a Delhi court in a corruption case related to purchase of medical equipment.

Special Judge B.R. Kedia remanded V.K. Ramteke, director professor and head of the department (surgery) of MAMC, and Manmohan Singh Chopra, a retired doctor of the government-run hospital, were sent to 14 days in judicial custody.

The anti-corruption branch of Delhi Police arrested the two May 15.

According to police, the two in connivance with some medicine and equipment suppliers purchased their products at an inflated rate around six years ago.

The police booked the accused under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and penal provisions for criminal misconduct, cheating and forgery.
