“The much publicised statement of 100 percent work having been done is not correct. Rejuvenation of Bengal has started its journey and the government has promises to keep and miles to go,” state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharjee said.

The Congress Saturday released a “one year evaluation report” of the Trinamool-Congress alliance government in the state.

Bhattacharjee lauded the state government for its success in eliminating the Maoist problem from Junglemahal area and restoration of peace in the hills, but criticised its land policy as “improper and defective” and slammed the government for deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

“No doubt that state government does have some feathers in its cap. But there are some issues which need to be resolved, such as the issue of land policy and deteriorating law and order,” he said.

“Bengal has lost its prime place in industry sector during the Left regime. And at the same time, an improper and defective land policy has made the problem more complex. The land policy prepared by TMC has denied a basic fact that large industry requires large tracts of land,” said Bhattacharjee.

“The condition of law and order in the state has gone for a toss. Incidents of violence in colleges and universities have increased and police are busy in seeing the colour of the political party before taking an action. This is not right,” he said.

Asked to evaluate the state government’s performance in the last one year, Bhattacharjee said: “This thing evaluation is not right. You can’t evaluate a government in just one year which has been voted to power for five years. The government has taken some positive steps and some wrong decisions too.”
