Medvedev meets Obama

Washington : Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met US President Barack Obama for an informal chat on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit in Camp David.

Both leaders sat and talked on a bench in a park with translators on each side Saturday, RIA Novosti reported.

“I said that my presence here in Camp David in the capacity of the head of the Russian delegation, when the (Russian) president is busy forming a new government, could be considered as a definite symbol of succession in our foreign policies and succession in reset,” Medvedev told a news conference after the meeting.

The former Russian president said most of the talk was devoted to issues of reset in relations between Russia and the US.

“I am satisfied with the talks. It means that our (Russian and American) conversation continues,” Medvedev said.

The prime minister also said he gave Obama a letter from President Vladimir Putin that stipulates Russia’s priorities in the foreign policy course.

The prime minister attended the summit instead of Putin, who withdrew last week citing the need to finalise a new government after his inauguration.
