Islamabad : Two people – a woman and a teenager – were electrocuted in the Pakistani port city of Karachi and several others were injured after tin roofs of houses fell following a dust storm.
The dust storm Saturday evening caused many sheds, trees and electric wires to come down, Geo News reported Sunday.
Officials at the Pakistan Meteorological Department told Dawn News the storm originated from Iran. The wind speed touched almost 70 km per hour and minimum visibility was at 50 metres.
An unidentified woman was electrocuted in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area while a 17-year-old daily wage earner, Ahmed Khan, was also electrocuted near Boulton Market.
Heavy winds brought down trees, blocking traffic. The dust-filled gale filled the sky over the city, causing low visibility, particularly for motorists.
Karachi airport authorities said visibility had dropped to zero for a brief period, due to which one flight was delayed.
