New Delhi : The government Wednesday denied that it has put economic reforms on the back burner, after three key bills failed to get passed in the just ended budget session of parliament.
“Don’t assume that the economic reforms agenda is on the back burner… Law-making is a time-consuming process,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters here.
“Some work has to be done,” he said, of the three bills. He said he hoped they would be passed in the monsoon session in August.
The proposed bills due for passage are the Banking Laws Amendment Bill, Insurance Laws Amendment Bill and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill.
Bansal said while there was an agreement with the opposition on the banking bill, which was listed for passage May 22, the session’s last day, there were some reservations on the other bills.
