Beijing : A total of 45 Chinese have been arrested in Nigeria for their involvement in illegal textile trade, a media report said Thursday.
The 34 men and 11 women were arrested Tuesday in a textile market in northern Kano state in a government crackdown on illegal migrants, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The chief of the immigration department in Kano accused the Chinese of taking jobs that belonged to local Nigerians.
But he denied the crackdown was targeted just at Chinese people.
The Chinese embassy in Nigeria contacted the Nigerian Immigration Service and the foreign ministry to resolve the issue.
