2 killed, 2 injured in Ghaziabad blast

Ghaziabad : Two people were killed and two critically injured in a blast in a scrapped oil tanker in Ghaziabad Friday, police said.

The incident occurred at about 11.00 a.m. Friday in an open field in Hindon Vihar locality of Ghaziabad.

The oil tanker had been bought by scrap traders Rais Malik, Sohan and Usman who had dumped it in an open field outside their residence in Hindon Vihar.

They engaged three gas welders Friday to cut open the tank. When the welders were opening the cover by cutting it, a blast took place hurling the cover about 100 metres away, at a spot where three women were cutting grass for their cattle.

One of the welders, identified as Subrati (28), was killed on the spot. One of the three women, identified as Noor Jahan (25), succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital. The two other women, Zarina and Shaheen, are critically injured in hospital.
