Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Friday accused the central government of adopting a callous approach to the kerosene needs of the poor in Tamil Nadu by reducing its allocation.
In a letter to Singh, Jayalalithaa cited the reduced allocation of kerosene to Tamil Nadu to 39.429 kilo litre (KL) for April-June 2012 from 44,580 KL earlier.
She said the poor in rural and urban areas depended on kerosene supplied through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
“… this callous approach in consistently reducing the allocation is tantamount to penalising the poor people of Tamil Nadu simply because they voted for AIADMK,” she said.
Jayalalithaa recalled her earlier letters to Singh requesting him to enhance the kerosene allocation to Tamil Nadu.
“I had also brought to your notice the unfair treatment meted out to my government by pointing out that the central allotment of 52,806 KL for the months of April and May 2011 was reduced to 44,580 KL without any reason. Now, the allocation has been further whittled down to 39,429 KL for the quarter April-June 2012 again without any reason or logic,” she said.
The AIADMK took power in Tamil Nadu in May last year.
