The French experts saw Russian army mine-clearers in action during a visit to the Russian Engineering Force’s 66th training centre at Nikolo-Uryupovo near Moscow.

The Russian combat engineers demonstrated how their specialists are trained, and also showed how they use dog teams to find buried explosive devices.

“The military specialists from France expressed an interest in further study of our training and preparation of mine-search dogs, in order to establish whether they might create such a unit in the French Armed Forces,” said Russian defence ministry spokesman Col. Sergei Vlasov.

The French were also interested in other equipment, such as mine detectors, and detectors for remote-control mechanisms and booby-trap command wires.
