Odisha heatwave continues

Bhubaneswar : A heatwave continued to sweep large parts of Odisha Tuesday even as the maximum temperatures dropped slightly in the state, the weatherman said.

The district headquarters town of Malkangiri, about 620-kms from here recorded 45 degrees Celsius, the day’s highest in the state, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

A day earlier, the day’s highest in the state was 46.1 degrees Celsius recorded at Hirakud town in Sambalpur district.

Many places in western parts of the state experienced searing heat, recording maximum temperatures between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius. However the costal districts remained slightly cool with some places witnessing the temperature in the range of 32 and 35 degrees Celsius.

The district headquarters town of Sambalpur, 320-kms from here had recorded a temperature of 46.7 degrees Celsius both May 25 and May 26, the highest of the state this summer. The official said the heat wave condition is likely to prevail in some parts of the state during next one day.
