Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Tuesday cracked the whip on officials found guilty of dereliction in wheat purchases, ordering suspension of 59 and 0departmental action against 26 others.
A government communique said that the 59 officials who were suspended were in-charges of wheat purchase centres at different places in the state.
The chief minister ordered their suspension after his office was flooded with complaints of rampant corruption and conclusive evidence on irregularities at these centres.
He also acted tough on the district magistrates of Fatehpur and Auraiya and the two officials were served showcause notices.
The chief minister had made it clear last week that he would not tolerate any mess up in the ongoing wheat procurement process and had in fact made a surprise inspection at a wheat purchase centre in Unnao district, adjacent to Lucknow.
He had later directed 25 ministers to make surprise inspections in various districts of the state.
During these inspections, irregularities were detected at 85 wheat purchase centres in the state.
Out of these, serious complaints were found against 59 in-charges of the centres and they were subsequently suspended.
