New Delhi : The BJP Friday appointed former MP Sarbananda Sonowal as president of the party’s Assam unit following the resignation of Ranjit Dutta.
A statement by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Assam in-charge Vijay Goel said Dutta had resigned from the state unit president’s post due to health reasons.
The new president, Sonowal has represented the Moran constituency in the Assam assembly and Dibrugarh in parliament.
He was earlier associated with Asom Gana Parishad, All Assam Students Union and North East Students Organisation.
