For more than 35 minutes, Mulayam Yadav analysed the content of the book, “Yatharth ke Aas Pas”, written by a Congress leader, Chandra Prakash Rai.

“This collection of poems on some very sensitive issues like girls, female foeticide, loneliness, loss of faith and other human emotions must be read by everyone,” he said.

“I had the opportunity to glance through the pages on the plane. I found the subjects and the presentation appealing,” Yadav said.

Modern life is about loneliness, alienation and isolation, the wrestler-turned-politician lamented.

Literary people have always contributed to society’s well being, during the freedom movement and after, he said. In politics, “I once told the house ‘mein na idhar hun, na udhar, mein atal hun’.” (I am neither here, nor there, I am only firm.)

Yadav said he felt that working for the party was more important and it also brought him closer to workers and people.

“Therefore, I did not accept chief ministership but made Akhilesh the CM so that I can devote full time to party building.”

A large number of literary figures, educationists and social activists attended the programme.
