New Delhi : The BJP Wednesday said it will oppose on the floor of parliament the UPA government’s policy to allow FDI in multi-brand retail and coordinate with NDA allies and other opposition parties on the issue.
“We will totally oppose foreign direct investment (FDI) in the upcoming parliament session. The strategy for opposition will also be discussed within the NDA and also with other parties opposed to FDI,” Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman and deputy leader of the party in Rajya Sabha, told reporters here.
He said the government’s decision on FDI in retail “is not in the interest of the country”.
Prasad asked the government to explain why the assurance of then finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma in parliament on not introducing FDI in retail without consulting all parties was being breached now.
“We want to put the government on the mat (on the issue)”, he said.
