Sachin Pilot’s uncle dies of wounds inflicted by robbers

Ghaziabad : Ashok Kasana (60), uncle of union minister Sachin Pilot, who sustained injuries a month ago when two men attempting robbery shot him at his home in Hapur, died at a hospital in Gurgaon Thursday.

Kasana sustained multiple bullet injuries in his abdomen in the Oct 15 attack. The doctor said his liver, intestines and pancreas were damaged in the firing.

Police said earlier that Ashok Kasana was sleeping in his cattle yard in Nizampur locality, Hapur, near the National Highway-24 around 3.30 a.m. Oct 15, when two criminals scaled the wall of the yard and barged into the first-floor residential portion of teh house.

The men asked Kasana to get up from his bed.

Kasana woke up and did not quite understand what was happening.

Before he could react, one of the men opened fire at him from a .38 Mauser. The second man stabbed him with a knife, after which the two men fled.

On hearing the bullet shot, Kasana’s sons rushed to the spot and took him to Sarvodaya Hospital in Ghaziabad, where doctor Neeraj Garg told this correspondent that the patient was in a critical condition.

Kasana was later shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he died of his critical injuries.

Mohit Kasana, son of the victim, told this correspondent that his father had fallen victim to the sudden spurt of crime in Hapur.

He said cattle thieves had begun to act with impunity, and illegal cattle slaughtering continued unchecked in the area.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Uttar Pradesh Police Zaki Ahmad said: “The attackers were arrested immediately and sent to jail.”
