The arrests came following last month’s arrest of an Indian national who was held carrying blank cards and equipment to forge credit cards.

The Russians were arrested in Colombo with 250 forged credit cards and in possession of money worth over $25,000 withdrawn from ATM machines, said police spokesperson Priyashantha Jayakody.

Investigation revealed that the Russians had carried out the scam with accomplices in Cambodia and Vietnam.

Police also seized from them various equipment, including laptop computers which were used in the credit card scam.

Last month, Sri Lankan police had warned public about the credit card fraud after an Indian national was arrested at the airport as he arrived from Tamil Nadu state. He was also carrying 110 blank magnetic cards.
