New Delhi : A total of 68 percent of Delhiites have their own houses while 29 percent live in rented accommodations, said Delhi Statistical Handbook, 2012, which was released here Tuesday.
According to the 37th issue of the handbook, brought out by Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Delhi government, and released by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, over 99 percent of the households are electrified and tapped water supply is available in over 80 percent of the houses.
“The overall literacy in Delhi is 86.34 percent with male literacy at 91.03 percent and female literacy at 80.93 percent,” says the handbook.
Over 30 lakh families reside in Delhi, of which 30 percent have two-room houses and over 20 percent own a car.
Delhi has a population of over 16 million.
