Addressing students at the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mangalayatan University here, Trivedi said the youths could become the torch-bearers in the campaign for a better India.

Trivedi’s comments came within days of two Mumbai girls being arrested for commenting on social networking site Facebook on the Mumbai shutdown following Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s death Saturday.

In September, Maharashtra Police had arrested Trivedi after slapping sedition charges on him for insulting national emblems and the constitution. He was released later.

“India never had such low tolerance level. Kabir used his ‘dohas’ for social change. If he lived today, his house could be gutted down. We should not demonstrate such behaviour,” Trivedi said.

“We have to use social media against corruption. We must give some time for national causes, this is need of the hour. Lokpal can be a means to curb corruption,” he added.

When a student asked if he was planning to join politics, Trivedi said he was not right now but would use every available platform to highlight the issue of corruption, expressing his full support to both Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal.

Trivedi was recently evicted from popular reality TV show Bigg Boss-6 house.
