Malala, who is in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, made her first telephone call to Mir, Geo News reported Tuesday.

“Malala Yousafzai and her father just called me from UK and expressed their solidarity. Malala said that Insha Allah we will defeat terrorists,” Mir tweeted.

The anchor escaped an assassination attempt when police defused a bomb planted on the passenger side of his car in Islamabad.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has announced a reward of Rs.50 million for credible information regarding the attempt on the journalist’s life.

Malala, the 15-year-old who became a symbol of resistance of Taliban’s anti girl education stand, was shot in the head Oct 9. She came to prominence in 2009 at the age of 11, when she started writing a diary for BBC Urdu about life under the Taliban.

Malala is currently undergoing treatment in Britain and recovering. The Taliban said they had targeted her for promoting secularism.
