Kabul : Fourteen people, including three NATO soldiers and a senior official, were killed and 37 others injured in a suicide bomb blast in Afghanistan’s Khost province Monday.
The blast occurred at around 8.30 a.m. when a joint Afghan and coalition convoy was passing through a busy area of the provincial capital city of Khost, some 150 km from Kabul, Xinhua reported.
“Three International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members and an ISAF-contracted interpreter died following a suicide improvised explosive device (IED) attack in eastern Afghanistan today,” the coalition forces said in a statement Monday.
The provincial government reported 10 casualties, including that of a provincial commander of police force.
“Mubarak Shah, a provincial commander of rapid-reaction police force, along with three Afghan National Police (ANP) officers and six civilians were killed in Monday morning’s suicide attack in Khost city,” it said.
A total of 37 people, including three policemen, were wounded in the attack, said the government, adding that the toll could rise as many injured were in critical condition.
