Bengal sets Rs.31,000 crore tax collection target in FY13

Kolkata : The West Bengal government Thursday said it has set a target of Rs.31,000 crore revenue collection from state taxes this fiscal, a 24 percent increase compared with the last fiscal.

“We had collected Rs.25,000 crore revenue from taxes during 2011-12. And for this year, we have set a target of Rs.31,000 crore,” state Finance Minister Amit Mitra said at an event organised by the Federation of South Bengal Chambers of Commerce & Industry here.

Total revenue collection from state taxes was Rs.21,000 crore in 2010-11.

The minister said Bengal had witnessed 7.06 percent state GDP (SGDP) growth during the last financial year.

“In nominal terms, the SGDP growth was 15.5 percent in 2011-12, which is exceptional,” Mitra said.

He said the state government was focusing on accelerating growth, more employment generation and transparency in governance, among other things.
