New Delhi : The union cabinet Thursday allowed the West Bengal government to withdraw from the Haldia Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) project.
The cabinet agreed to the West Bengal government’s decision to develop an industrial park, a power plant and an eco-tourism park on Nayachar Island in Haldia, in place of the PCPIR project.
The cabinet committee on economic affairs had in 2009 approved setting up a PCPIR in the Haldia municipal area and Nayachar islands in the Purba Medinipur district of the state.
The implementation of PCPIRs are reviewed by the union government on a quarterly basis after their approval by CCEA.
