New Delhi : Police Thursday arrested three young men for allegedly robbing and murdering an elderly woman in her flat here two days ago.
The body of Madhu Mehra, 62, a retired government school teacher, was found gagged and bound in Timarpur Tuesday.
The trio had hatched the conspiracy to rob Mehra’s flat believing she had a lot of cash and jewellery, Delhi Police said in a statement.
One of the accused, Rahul Parsad, 22, lived in a flat opposite Mehra’s and wanted to recover the money he had lost in a business venture, said police.
Police first arrested Prasad for the crime, who led them to his friends Rahul Gautam, 19, and Nadeem, 24, the two co-accused.
“Rahul, Gautam and Nadeem knocked at the woman’s door and on the pretext of distributing ‘prasad’, got inside. They overpowered her and when she tried to raise an alarm, they gagged her mouth with a cloth, which led to her death,” the police said.
Police have recovered Rs.5,500, a gold chain and 20 National Savings Certificates from the trio.
