Kolkata: The meeting of all stakeholders, convened by the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) to solve the crisis at Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), seemed to have failed to resolve most of the issues Thursday.
Although KoPT formed a nine-member committee to address the conflicting issues of the stakeholders, whose conflict of interest hampered operations at Haldia dock, the key stakeholders, however, were not very optimistic about it.
For nearly a fortnight now, the situation at HDC over differences between HDC officers and a group of workers backed by the Trinamool Congress has resulted in loss of revenue for the port and delay for shippers. Many port users have decided to get their consignments unloaded at other ports.
But at the end of the meet, attended by berth operators, handling agents, representatives of labour unions and port officials, the stakeholders did not seem agree.
Haldia Dock Complex handles an average 14 million tonnes (mt) of dry bulk cargo annually, of which HBT handles 5 mt.
