Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Saturday signed a pact with the union government to set up a 2,000-MW thermal power plant in Kanpur district.
The project in the backward Ghatampur region is a joint venture between UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLCL).

The state has permitted the use of 2,500 acres and 80 cusecs of water for the project.
According to Central Electricity Authority, Uttar Pradesh will get 64.39 percent of the power produced from this plant.
Principal Secretary, Energy, Anil Kumar Gupta said that to address the rising power demand, the state has requested the union government to allocate it 75 percent of power generated from the plant.
